Flash Flood Warning | |

Statement as of 5:20 AM HST on November 14, 2009 The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... the island of Oahu in Honolulu County * until 715 am HST * at 520 am HST... radar showed showers and thunderstorms still present over the area of interest... although their intensities have leveled off. Conditions remains favorable for brief flare ups. Therefore the Flash Flood Warning is extended for another 2 hours. * Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Punaluu... Laie and Kahuku. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams... roads and low lying areas. Move to higher ground now. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around... Don/T drown. This Flash Flood Warning replaces the Flood Advisory that was in effect for the island of Oahu in Honolulu County. This warning may need to be extended beyond 715 am HST if flash flooding persists. Statement as of 3:33 AM HST on November 14, 2009 ... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through this afternoon... The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for * all Hawaiian islands. * Through this afternoon. * Nearly stationary upper level low pressure west of the state will maintain an unstable atmosphere. Combined with sufficient moisture moving in from the east-southeast the threat of flash flooding will continue through this afternoon. * Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Prepare now for the possibility of very heavy rainfall that could cause flash flooding. Campers and hikers should pay particular attention to later forecasts. Stay away from creeks... streams... and other flood prone areas. Remember that it does not have to be raining where you are for flash flooding to occur. Powell |
