A badly-injured climber has been rescued after she spent the night trapped on a glacier in western New Zealand.

The Press (New Zealand) reports the German woman fell into a crevasse near Fox Glacier. She survived the fall, but has what's described as "serious limb injuries."

Her hiking partner had to leave her to go find help. Three highly-trained rescue team members located her and stayed with her overnight until weather cleared and a chopper could arrive.
Rescuers say the partner did the right thing by leaving her to retrieve help.
Fox Glacier is located in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, attracting adventurous tourists from around the world, according to the nation's tourism department.
