About 9 km (5½ mi) north of Maroochydore, this hotel was built around a 15-acre saltwater lagoon bordering Maroochy River and Mudjimba Beach. The family-friendly resort lies adjacent to one of Queensland's finest golf courses, where golfers share the greens with kangaroos. There are resident golf, surfing, tennis, and (in peak season) circus pros; catamaran sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing on the lagoon are free for guests. Choose from three accommodation styles: twin Resort rooms, King Spa suites—each with a kitchenette, lounge area, and hot tub—and lavish Lagoon Spa suites, popular with couples. All rooms have high-speed Internet, pay movies, and Sony PlayStation games, and were given fresh soft furnishings in 2007. The over-water day spa incorporates a hair salon and art gallery. Pros:

great lawns and lagoon; free use of water-sports equipment; terrific kids' programs.

Cons:

housekeeping standards vary; buffet dinners pricey; lackluster spa. Note: the tennis court and golf course are not owned by the hotel so I took them out of their facilities. The name has changed to Twin Waters Resort. www.twinwatersresort.com.au. 234 rooms, 126 suites. In-room: kitchen (some), Internet, Wi-Fi. In-hotel: 4 restaurants, bars, pool, tennis courts, gym, spa, beach, water sports, children's programs, laundry facilities, business center, parking. Credit cards accepted. Rate includes: Breakfast.
