==Discussion==

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A low pressure system developing over the central United States will
intensify as it heads toward the Great Lakes. A strong southerly
flow will set up over the eastern part of the continent bringing a
mild and humid air mass over the province of Quebec.

Tuesday, a mixed bag of precipitation will develop over the southern
part of the province. A fairly long period of freezing rain is
expected over the St Lawrence and Ottawa valleys. Despite the
arrival of a milder air mass, persistent northeast winds will feed
an influx of cold air near the surface, creating conditions
favourable for freezing on exposed surfaces. However, ice
accumulation should be between 2 and 5 mm.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will
become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or
driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero
temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
