Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, May 28, 2012. Typhoon Sanvu will weaken into a tropical storm by Monday and will remain well to the east of Japan. It is not a threat to make landfall anywhere and its only effect on land will be some choppy surf along the east coast of Japan.

Meanwhile, a weak storm will move through the Sea of Japan and into Honshu. This storm will carry a moderate amount of moisture that will produce light to moderate rain mostly for Honshu.

For inland China, a storm with a lot of moisture will produce widespread rain and thunderstorms well west of the heavily populated areas along the coast. Thus, aside from some morning showers along the southeast coast of China, mostly dry conditions are expected from Hong Kong through Shanghai and farther north through the Yellow Sea.

Generally warm conditions are expected for much of the area, with the warmest weather anticipated in northern China adjacent to Mongolia. More mild temperatures are anticipated for Japan and the Sea of Japan.

Tokyo will rise into the mid-70s(F)/mid-20s(C), while Shanghai will see temperatures in the lower 80s(F)/upper 20s(C). Seoul will rise into the upper 70s(F)/mid-20s(C).

For Australia, a large high pressure system centered over the Great Australian Bight will expand throughout much of the country Monday. This will promote widespread dry conditions for almost the entire country. The one exception to these dry conditions will be along the east coast from Brisbane to Sydney, where coastal showers are possible.

Generally mild conditions are anticipated for much of the country as cool air will stream into the area from the Tasman Sea.

Sydney will rise into the mid-60s(F)/upper 10s(C), while Melbourne will see temperatures into the upper 50s(F)/mid-10s(C). Brisbane will rise into the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C).
