Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

Areas of wet weather will continue in parts of eastern Asia on Wednesday as low pressure remains the dominant weather feature of the region. In the northeast, a slow moving low pressure system will remain nearly stationary over the Sakhalin Peninsula . This system will be fairly weak, allowing for small areas of light to moderate precipitation to develop mainly in southeastern Russia. Counter-clockwise flow around this system will allow moisture from the Sea of Japan to spread inland across northern Japan. This will translate into periods of increased cloud cover and chances of isolated, light showers in the northern half of Honshu and in parts of Hokkaido. The brunt of precipitation and storms associated with this system will remain in southeastern Russia.

To the south, an upper trough of low pressure will remain stretched across the southeastern provinces of China and will usher a hot southwesterly airmass across the region. This setup will translate into widespread moderate to locally heavy rains and areas of squally thunderstorms in provinces of Guangxi through Fujian as the airmass pools along a stationary front extending across the region. An associated low will allow this activity to continue in Taiwan and spread across the Ryukyu islands as it moves into the East China Sea. Unsettled weather in southeastern China is expected to wane through Wednesday night with this transition.

For Australia, Wednesday\'s precipitation focus shifts to the east as a storm system impacting the Northern Territory and South Australia reaches from the northeastern Great Australian Bight into southwestern Queensland. Expect scattered showers and possible thunderstorms with this system from areas near Adelaide, South Australia through Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. Chances of showers will also continue for the northern tier of the Northern Territory.
