Areas of active weather will develop in the Caribbean Sea and Latin America on Monday, as two weather features affect the region. A low pressure system moving away from the East Coast of the US will continue pushing a cold front southward through the Caribbean Islands. This system will move over the Turks and Caicos Islands, into Hispaniola, and brush the northern islands of the Lesser Antilles. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop along this frontal boundary. The tail end of the front will stretch through the central Caribbean Sea, reaching into Central America. Strong winds, scattered thunderstorms, and high seas are likely along this front. Meanwhile to the north, another trough of low pressure moves into the Southern Plains and extends into northern Mexico. This will pull moisture onshore from the Gulf of Mexico, kicking up widespread showers and thunderstorms over eastern and central Mexico. Mexico City will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-60s(F)/ mid-teens(C), with showers and thunderstorms developing in the evening hours.

In South America, a monsoon trough of low pressure is forced southward, which pushes moisture onshore from the Pacific Ocean. This will support scattered showers and thunderstorms from Colombia through Peru. Expect some areas to see moderate to heavy storms with periods of intense downpours. To the south, a trough of low pressure breaks apart from a stronger system, and lingers over the southeastern coast of Brazil. This will kick up more scattered thunderstorms over Sao Paulo and the coasts of Santa Catarina. Rio de Janeiro will start to dry out as this system moves away to the south. Further south, more rain showers develop over the southern tip of the continent as a system passes by to the south.
