Special Weather Statement
Special Weather Statement
updated by Environment Canada
at 5:04 PM PDT Friday 28 August 2015.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Weather Statement for:
      Metro Vancouver
      Greater Victoria
      Fraser valley
      Whistler
      southern Gulf islands
      East Vancouver Island
      west Vancouver Island
      inland Vancouver Island.

Heavy rain over the South Coast this weekend.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Weather Statement ended for:
      Howe Sound
      Sunshine Coast.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
==Discussion==
10 to 20 mm of rain fell across the South Coast this morning with the
leading wave. A stronger impulse will advance overnight and feed sub
tropical moisture over the regions giving rain into Saturday
morning. A brief break is expected later Saturday before the third
wave brings further rain into Sunday. Across most areas total
rainfall amounts through Saturday will be in the 20 to 40 mm range
with additional amounts of 15 to 20 mm likely on Sunday.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for the North Shore Howe Sound
and the Sunshine Coast where amounts of 80 to 120 mm are likely
through Sunday.

In all areas but especially in the warning areas localized flooding
is possible where rainfall rates approach 10 mm per hour due to the
incapacity of the soil to absorb moisture due to the recent dry
spell. Road surfaces may become slippery resulting in poor driving
conditions.

To mitigate the risk of flash flooding, make sure drain spouts and
sewer covers are free of debris, so water can freely drain.
