Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

Active weather spread into the East on Wednesday as a storm system moved through the Central and Southern Plains. This system and its associated warm and cold fronts interacted rich moisture surging out of the Gulf of Mexico to produce scattered showers, periods of heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms from eastern Texas through the Mid-Mississippi Valley and the western Ohio Valley. In addition to this activity, cold temperatures in the north supported areas of snow development in parts of the Mid- and Upper Mississippi Valley. In the south, there was a slight risk for severe weather development ahead of the associated cold front, from areas of eastern Texas into southwestern Mississippi. The main concerns with these storms were large hail and damaging wind gusts. Elsewhere in the East, low level moisture in the Great Lakes allowed light snow showers to continue in upstate New York.

Out West, a Pacific low and an associated cold front dropped southeastward across California and Nevada through the day and brought rain, high elevation snow, and possible thunderstorms to southern and central California and the Central Great Basin during the afternoon. New snow accumulations of up to 6 to 12 inches were expected due to intense convective snow bursts.
