..significant winter storm will affect southern Ontario tonight and
Wednesday..

An intense low pressure system currently over the southwestern states
is moving towards the upper Great Lakes.

Snow associated with this system will begin late this afternoon in
southwestern Ontario and spread throughout the remainder of southern
Ontario reaching the National capital region just before dawn on
Wednesday.  The exception will be areas adjacent to Lake Erie
and extreme southwest where rain mixed with wet snow is more likely.

As the low moves further northeast snow will change to rain.
This changeover to rain will likely occur after midnight tonight
through southwestern Ontario.  The rain will change back to snow
Wednesday night across the regions.  Local amounts of snow of 5 to 10
centimetres are likely.  Strong easterly winds will accompany the
snow causing occasional blowing snow and reduce visibility.
Travellers should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions
and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

Strong westerly winds and snowsqualls will follow the storm Thursday.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor this developing situation
closely and issue further statements and warnings as warranted.
