A long period of snowfall, with total amounts of 20 to 30 cm is
expected.

A major Pacific weather system is bringing heavy snowfall to parts
of central Alberta through Friday.

The snow is slowly spreading eastward and will continue through
Friday. Snowfall totals for this system, by the time Friday evening
arrives, will likely be in the 15 to 30 cm range.

Brisk northeasterly winds are also generating drifting or blowing
snow in open areas and along major highways.

Behind the system, frigid Arctic air will drop daytime highs well
below normal for the weekend.

Snowfall warnings are issued when 10 cm of snow or more is expected
to fall in 12 hours or less.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. There may
be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
Please continue to monitor your local media or weatheradio for
further updates. If you would like to report severe weather, you can
call 1-800-239-0484 or send an email to storm(at)ec.Gc.CA or tweet
reports to (hash)abstorm.
