A strong low pressure system brings more wet and stormy weather to Asia on Monday. The system will continue strengthening as it moves from eastern China and into the Yellow Sea. This system will obtain moisture and energy from the Yellow and East China Seas, allowing for heavy rainfall and strong storms to develop across eastern China north of Shanghai, and into the Korean Peninsula Monday night into Tuesday. Flow around this system continues pushing a cold front southeastward, which will maintain shower and thunderstorm activity across southeastern China from Vietnam through Shanghai. Thus, Shanghai will be overcast with showers and thunderstorms and breezy conditions with highs in the lower 80s(F)/ upper 20s(C), while Hong Kong will slow see scattered storms throughout the day with highs in the upper 80s(F)/ near 30(C) and heat index values approaching 100(F)/ 37(C). Beijing will be north of this system under higher pressure and dry conditions with partly cloudy skies and dry conditions and highs in the upper 70s(F)/ mid-20s(C). High pressure over Japan will also maintain dry and mild conditions. Tokyo will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-70s(F)/ lower 20s(C).

In Australia, high pressure dominating over the country will maintain warm and dry conditions. In the west, a trough of low pressure approaches far southwestern Australia, bringing a chance of rain to the region late on Monday. In the east, onshore flow from a system spinning over New Zealand will bring a chance of coastal showers to New South Wales. Sydney will be partly cloudy with a chance of showers in the afternoon and evening with highs in the lower 70s(F)/ lower 20s(C).
