Leeds is a thriving northern city in West Yorkshire, England. With a population of a little under a million residents, Leeds is Englands third largest city. You'll find a large student population in Leeds as well as a happening nightlife and a large array of festivals and events to attend. But what is the weather like in Leeds? The weather in Leeds is overall temperate even though it lays in such a northern latitude. You'll find all four seasons, but you won't experience vast extremes. In fact, Leeds typically receives less than average rainfall than many British cities, so the need to carry an umbrella is slightly less than in other parts of England.
How does the weather stack up on a seasonal basis if you're looking to visit? If you're wanting to visit Leeds, the best months to go are from May through September. This won't guarantee there won't be rain or even chilly weather, but overall the weather should remain fairly pleasant. Due to its geographic location, Leeds weather keeps winters mostly chilly and summer fairly cool. Summers in Leeds can see temperatures as high as 80 degrees, especially in the months of July and August. But don't expect summer weather in Leeds to get much warmer, it's simply too far north to experience warmer temperatures. The warmer summer months makes it the perfect location for the annual Leeds Festival, a popular music festival held yearly in the month of August. The festival usually remains a fairly dry event because although rainfall happens in Leeds year-round, it rains substantially less in the summers months. In fact, an interesting fact is that Leeds is one of the driest summer cities in all of Europe. The autumn months sees much the same weather as spring as temperatures drop and winter begins approaching.
But what about the winters? If you're in Leeds in December you most likely won't see much sunlight. In the winter months, Leeds is cold, dark and worst of all----wet. This makes for long winters in Leeds. All in all, a typical weather forecast in Leeds will have temperate temperatures and the occasional chance of rain, so be prepared. And if you're visiting in the winter pack warm. And like all British cities, make sure to pack an umbrella.
