Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

Ida has turned into a Extratropical storm as it has pushed northward over the Southeastern states on Tuesday. The system has lost most of its strength as it is no longer fed by the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and has become picked up in the large scale atmospheric flow. Additionally, a front has moved in from the Midwest and has helped to push Ida eastward and towards the East Coast. Periods of heavy rainfall spread over most of the Lower Mississippi and moved into the Mid-Atlantic states, which brought serious flooding problems to the coastal regions of the Gulf states. On Monday, rainfall totals remained near and inch in most places along the coast, with lighter showers as far north as the Carolinas. In Chunchilla, Alabama, 0.98 inches of rain was reported with wind gusts up to 44 mph, while Rutherfordton, North Carolina saw 0.76 inches of rain.

To the north and west of this system, a wide ridge of high pressure built in and brought mostly sunny skies with warm temperatures. The North saw highs in the 60s, while the Southern Plains barely broke into the 70s.

Out West, a cold front persistently pushed eastward and over the Northern Rockies on Monday. Thus, the Pacific Northwest started to dry out under overcast skies, as higher elevations saw light snowfall with accumulations up to 2-3 inches.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 11 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo. to a midday high of 91 degrees at Winslow, Ariz.
