Weather Summary

Shaun Tanner
Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 11, 2008. A very strong low presure system will move across the Upper Mississippi Valley and into the Ohio Valley. This storm will then weaken in favor of a developing low pressure system that will move through the Appalachians towards the eastern seaboard. This pair of storms will carry a significant amount of moisture that produce heavy rain along with thunderstorms east of the Mississippi Valley. There is a moderate risk of severe weather along the Southeast Coast and a slight risk of severe weather east of the Appalachians.

The storm's associated cold front will move across Florida and produce areas of showers and thunderstorms.

In the West, a trough of low pressure will slide into the Northwest and promote rain and high elevation snow from the Cascades through the Intermountain West.

A ridge of high pressure will keep the middle portion of the country dry. This feature will pull warm air into the Southwest and Great Basin.

The Northeast will rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The Northwest will rise into the 60s, while the Southwest will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of 15 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 107 degrees at Del Rio, Texas.

Damage photos I saw from these towns showed buildings swept clean from their foundations, indicative of at least EF-4 damage, and possibly EF-5. Yesterday's deaths brings the 2008 U.S. tornado death toll up to 96--the most tornado fatalities since 1998, when 130 people died. With at le...
