Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, November 15, 2009.
Tropical storm development is not anticipated over the Tropical Atlantic or Caribbean seas on Sunday. But as a frontal boundary hovers over the region, wet weather will persist in many areas. A low pressure system spinning in the Atlantic, just east of the Bahamas, will create a stationary front that will extend over the Greater Antilles and over the Caribbean Sea and into Costa Rica and the Bahamas. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop over Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. This system will pick up additional moisture from the Caribbean Sea, thus, strong storms with periods of heavy rainfall will develop over eastern Costa Rica and northern Panama.
Behind this system, higher pressure will build over the Gulf of Mexico and allow for mild weather on Sunday. Expect high pressure with mostly sunny skies to span over most of Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula, into Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, and eastward over Cuba, Florida, and the Bahamas.
In South America, usual wet weather will continue over the northern countries, while onshore flow over from the Pacific over the west coast of the continent will trigger strong storms. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms with periods of heavy rain to develop over Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and into Bolivia.
To the south, a trough will move northward into southern Brazil, and will bring wet weather with heavy showers and thunderstorms to Paraguay and Santa Catarina. Expect thunderstorm development in Sao Paulo with highs in the mid-80s(F)/ upper 20s(C). Southern Chile will also see heavy precipitation as a trough moves in from west. Santiago, however, will remain under mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-80s(F)/ upper 20s(C).

Did you know that...
On this date in 1988, two F2 tornadoes ripped through central Arkansas, knocking out power to many people. One of the tornadoes hit a high school gym in Van Buren County. Fortunately, the gym was deserted because the basketball team was at an away game.
