Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, September 07, 2008.
Tropical Storm Hanna, after delivering several inches of rain to the Bahamas, is expected to make landfall on the U.S. East Coast over the weekend. It is still slightly possible for the storm to reach hurricane strength before landfall. After landfall, the tropical storm will move along the East Coast, dumping inches of rain and potentially causing floods along the coast. Elsewhere, Hurricane Ike, currently a category three hurricane, will move across the Bahamas on Sunday. Although Ike will weaken a little before reaching the Bahamas, it will likely move over the islands as a major hurricane. Flash flooding and mudslides will be a serious threat due to the intense rainfall. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the Eastern Pacific. Meanwhile, Mexico can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms across the country on Sunday due to low pressure, with the western and southern portions receiving the heaviest of the rainfall. Central America will also see showers and storms throughout the day. Rainfall associated with Hurricane Ike is expected over the Caribbean Islands, with most of the rainfall occurring over the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles.
The northeastern portion of South America will see showers and storms across the region partially due to a tropical wave that will move across Venezuela on Sunday. A very weak trough will produce a few clouds over Bolivia and Paraguay, while a low pressure system off of the coast of southern Brazil will trigger shower along the coasts of southern Brazil and Uruguay on Sunday. Meanwhile, a weakening cold front could produce rain and possibly snow showers over the southern portions of Chile and Argentina, while high pressure will keep the rest of the continent mostly clear.
