Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, July 24, 2008.

Hurricane Dolly is expected to strengthen and make landfall near Brownsville, Texas. It will then decrease to a Tropical Storm on Thursday because the system will start to lose energy once on land. Tropical storm wind warnings and hurricane warnings will be in effect through Thursday night for the central and southern Texas coast.

In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Genevieve will increase to a category 1 hurricane by Thursday. The system is will continue on its westward path, and is not expected to make landfall.

To the south, a tropical wave over Nicaragua and Honduras will trigger scattered showers over Central America on Thursday. Expect moderate to heavy rainfall over Costa Rica. Another tropical wave will move through the Lesser Antilles which will kick up some showers over Puerto Rico and Venezuela, while the Greater Antilles will remain mostly sunny. A low pressure system off the west coast of Africa has medium potential for tropical cyclone formation and will move towards the Caribbean Islands later this week.

In South America, a low pressure system will approach Chile from the west, thus, expect moderate to heavy precipitation in southern Chile on Thursday evening. The system will bring cooler temperatures and windy conditions to the southern portion of the continent. To the north, a front will extend from Paraguay to just south of Sao Paulo and is expected to trigger widespread scattered showers over the region. Along the east coast of Argentina and Uruguay, coastal showers could continue which are produced by a trough of low pressure that lingers offshore.
