Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 12, 2009.
Tropical Depression Four-E, located southwest of the tip of Baja California, is anticipated to strengthen as it continues tracking westward through the East Pacific. The storm will not make landfall as it will move further away from Mexico, but atmospheric conditions are favorable for storm intensification into hurricane status by Sunday evening or Monday. Expect heavy downpours, strong winds, and dangerous surf in the vicinity of the storm. For updated information please visit http://www.wunderground.com/tropical.
Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure hovering over Mexico will allow for wet weather to persist over the country. Abundant moisture over southern and western Mexico will allow for scattered showers over eastern and southern Mexico, extending up the Yucatan Peninsula. To the south, onshore flow from the Caribbean Sea over Central America will bring scattered showers from Guatemala to Panama with moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms developing along the east coast of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. To the east, a tropical wave moving over the Lesser Antilles will kick up scattered showers that will stretch into the Dominican Republic.
In South America, a tropical wave will extend over Venezuela from the Caribbean and bring moderate to heavy showers to the country on Sunday. In southern Brazil, a low pressure system and associated cold front will finally push offshore and away from the continent. However, light rain may persist in Sao Paulo with highs in the lower 60s(F)/ mid-teens(C). High pressure building over northern Argentina will bring mild weather to the country, which will extend into Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Further south, low pressure pushing moist flow over southern Chile will allow for scattered showers of mixed precipitation to continue. Expect light rain in Santiago with highs in the upper 50s(F)/ mid-teens(C).

Did you know that...
On this date in 1993, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Sea of Japan triggered a large tsunami. Waves up to 90 feet tall swept away people and buildings. While 239 people died, a far more major diaster was avoided due to the Japan Meteorological Agency's timely warnings to residents and businesses.
