Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 06, 2008.

A low pressure system centered over England will continue to bring wet conditions to Western Europe on Sunday. The British Isles will see light to moderate rainfall and windy conditions as a result of the storm. The rain will begin to lighten Sunday night going into Monday for that region. Areas of Portugal and Spain can expect some clouds and light rain, while France, Germany, and Italy will see a line of moderate to heavy rain over the area where the three countries meet. The wet conditions over Portugal and Spain should clear up some by the end of the day.

The Scandinavian Peninsula will also be affected by this system on Sunday. The southern parts of both Norway and Sweden will see moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day, while Denmark will see clouds and light rain. The rest of Central Europe should experience dryer condition for most of Sunday due to higher pressure, but rain from the storm out west will begin to invade the region late in the day.

Meanwhile, a second low pressure system located over western Russia will produce a front that will stretch across Eastern Europe on Sunday. A line of moderate to heavy rain along the front will extend from southeastern Ukraine, through western Russia, and all the way up to northwestern Russia near Finland. This line of rain will move off to the northeast as high pressure begins to set in toward the end of the day.

Temperatures across the continent will be cooler on Sunday, with the northern part of the continent ranging in the single digits in parts of the Scandinavian region to the low 20s with a few mid 20s, while farther south temperatures will only rise to the high 20s.

Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog:

Bertha may pose a long-range threat to the U.S.

Dr. Jeff Masters

Tropical Storm Bertha has maintained it's strength overnight, but is having trouble with Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) of 25°C--one degree below the threshold of 26°C considered beneficial for tropical storms. This morning's QuikSCAT pass missed Bertha, but last night's pass confirmed winds of at least 40mph. Satellite estimates of Bertha's strength have consistently put the storm's strength at 50 mph over the past day. The storm is under about 10-15 knots of win...

Weather History:

Did you know that...

It was sunny on this date in 1991 at St. Paul Island, Alaska. This is not exciting until you know that the next 60 days were cloudy, with the next sunny day occurring on September 5th. When the sun finally came out, the island reported a daily record high of 55 degrees.
