Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 12, 2009.
A complex weather pattern will bring multiple areas of active weather to Europe on Sunday. In the east, a small low pressure system spinning over eastern Europe will continue picking up moisture from the Black Sea, which will allow for widespread showers over Bulgaria, Romania, the Ukraine, and Poland. Moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are anticipated over the western Ukraine. Expect wet weather to extend northward into northwestern Russia, while high pressure will dominate over southwestern Russia, allowing for mostly sunny skies in Moscow with highs near 80(F)/ 26(C).
To the north, a strong low pressure system will approach the British Isles from the North Atlantic. Ample moisture is associated with this system as it has been persistently hovering over the North Atlantic for multiple days. Thus, when the system pushes a front over Ireland and the United Kingdom, it will produce moderate to heavy showers. The front will extend well into the European Mainland by Sunday afternoon, kicking up light and widespread showers over France and northern Spain. London and Paris will be rainy with highs in the lower 70s(F)/ lower 20s(C). As this system moves eastward, it will combine with a trough of low pressure lingering over Scandinavia, allowing for light showers to persist over the region. Oslo will remain cloudy with light rain and highs in the lower 60s(F)/ mid-teens(C). Iceland will see mostly sunny skies on Sunday as the system remains well south of the country.
To the south, high pressure will dominate the weather over the western Mediterranean. Barcelona and Rome will see pleasant weather with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 80s(F)/ mid-20s(C).

Did you know that...
On this date in 1993, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Sea of Japan triggered a large tsunami. Waves up to 90 feet tall swept away people and buildings. While 239 people died, a far more major diaster was avoided due to the Japan Meteorological Agency's timely warnings to residents and businesses.
