Wet weather and thunderstorms will persist in the central and southeastern countries of Europe as a strong low pressure shifts into eastern half of the Mediterranean Sea. Rich moisture flow from the Mediterranean Sea will translate into areas of moderate showers, locally heavy downpours, and thunderstorms from Italy through the eastern Mediterranean countries. Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia will see the heaviest amounts of precipitation throughout the day. Lighter and more scattered showers are expected throughout Serbia and Romania.
To the north, a smaller and weaker area of low pressure will produce cloudy skies with light, mixed precipitation from Denmark through Belarus and the Baltic States. Blustery showers may extend into northwestern Russia as the day progresses.
Meanwhile, cold flow from the north will drop temperatures and kick up additional light showers as it streams through the United Kingdom and France. Ireland will see a brief period of dry weather on Tuesday before a storm system in the North Atlantic sweeps a cold front into the country on Wednesday.
High pressure over Scandinavia will keep Norway and Sweden under fairly dry weather conditions.
London will see temperatures in the mid-50s(F)/mid-10s(C), while Paris will rise into the mid-40s(F)/upper 0s(C). Budapest will see temperatures in the mid-40s(F)/upper 0s(C), while Moscow will rise into the lower 40s(F)/mid-0s(C).
WEATHER FACT: A large storm, dubbed the "Freshwater Fury", caused eight large ore carriers on the Great Lakes to sink on this date in 1913. Nearly 270 sailors on the ships perished. The storm also brought large snow amounts to the area, including 36 inches of snow at Pickens, WV.
