Another wet day is expected over western Europe as a low pressure system spins over the British Isles. Flow around this system will create a cold front that will pick up abundant moisture from the North Atlantic and spread scattered showers over western France and northern Spain. The center of the system will bring periods of heavy rainfall to Ireland and London, while another weaker front ahead of the system will push into Scandinavia. London will see a scattered showers throughout the day with highs in the upper 50s(F)/ mid-teens(C). Paris and Oslo will remain just ahead of these systems under cloudy skies with highs in Paris near 60(F)/ 16(C), while Oslo will remain in the 30s(F).
In the east, a low pressure system will continue spinning eastward from the eastern Mediterranean and over the eastern Europe into western Russia. It is expected to pick up moisture from the Black Sea and trigger wet weather over the region. Moscow will remain cloudy, but precipitation is not expected, with highs near 40(F)/ 4(C). Rome will also remain cloudy and cool with highs in the lower 60s(F)/ mid-teens(C).
Between these two troughs, a ridge will build in over central Europe and the western Mediterranean. Mild and warm conditions are anticipated in these areas on Friday, with Barcelona reaching into the mid-60s(F)/ upper teens(C) under mostly sunny skies.
The great dust bowl era was kicked off on this date in 1933 as a dust storm spread from Montana to Maine on the 12th and 13th. Black rain was observed in New York and brown snow was reported in Vermont. Because of the dust, zero visibility was observed in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa.
