Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, November 24, 2009.
Fairly tranquil weather conditions will develop throughout the majority of eastern Asia on Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure dominates the region. Building high pressure will translate into dry weather conditions with minimal cloud coverage from central China through the Korean Peninsula. By the late evening, onshore flow will produce patches of clouds in northeastern China and areas of North Korea. Some of this cloud coverage may carry a few pockets of light rain showers during late Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, active weather will develop near a disturbance located just northeast of Taiwan. The system is expected to produce moderate to heavy precipitation as it progresses northeastward through the East China Sea to just south of Japan. The heaviest concentrations of precipitation are expected to fall across the open waters of the East China Sea and the northeastern Philippine Sea throughout the day. Light to moderate showers will spread into Kyushu, Shikoku, and the southern half of Honshu during the afternoon and evening hours.
Tokyo will see temperatures in the lower 60s(F)/mid-10s(C), while Seoul will rise into the mid-50s(F)/lower 10s(C). Shanghai will see temperatures in the upper 50s(F)/mid-10s(C).
For Australia, a swath of light to moderate showers will fall across western Queensland and South Australia as low pressure lingers in Queensland. A few patches of light showers may also develop in the central and coastal areas of New South Wales, as well as the central coastal areas of Queensland. High pressure along Great Australia Bight Coast will keep the remainder of the country under fair and dry conditions.
Sydney will see temperatures in the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C), while Melbourne will rise into the upper 70s(F)/mid-20s(C). Brisbane will see temperatures in the lower 80s(F)/upper 20s(C).

Is more CO2 beneficial for Earth's ecosystems?
Posted: 10:47 AM EST on November 20, 2009
We should emit as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as possible and oppose efforts to regulate CO2 emissions, because more CO2 is good for the Earth. That's the take-home message of an audacious TV ad that was run this fall by the advocacy group, Read This Blog Entry

Today in 1982 marked the end of Hawaii's 23-year streak of dodging hurricanes. Hurricane Iwa engulfed the islands of Niah, Kauai, and Oahu with 130 mph wind gusts and sustained winds of 100 mph. It was the first hurricane to hit Hawaii since Hurricane Dot in 1959.
