Historic Nor'easter pounds Mid-Atlantic coast
Posted: 10:55 AM EST on November 12, 2009
A historic Nor'easter, energized by the remains of Hurricane Ida, is pounding the coast form North Carolina to New Jersey with heavy rain, tropical storm-force winds, and a destructive storm surge. Wind gusts of 64 mph were reported at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and at Cape Henry, VA this morning. The high winds, combined with the slow movement of the Nor'easter are acting to push near-record storm surges onto the coast in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. At

Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, November 13, 2009.
The Western Pacific will not see tropical storm development on Friday, while the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Phyan continue bringing wet weather to western Indian. As the system loses strength, it will continue picking up ample moisture from the Arabian Sea and spread scattered storms that will stretch into Nepal. Sunny skies will return to Mumbai with highs in the mid-80s(F)/ upper 20s(C).
Meanwhile, a strong cold front that caused periods of heavy rain over China will push off shore, following a strong low pressure system. This trough will move from northeastern China and into the East China Sea towards the Korean Peninsula and western Japan. Expect heavy rainfall with strong storms to develop along this front, with rainfall totals ranging between 1-2 inches in most coastal regions. Tokyo will be rainy with highs in the lower 60s(F)/ mid-teens(C), as Seoul remains in the lower 50s(F)/ lower teens(C) and also under scattered showers.
Meanwhile, high pressure will build over China and start to dry out the country from the west. Beijing will see mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 30s(F)/ near 4(C). However, lingering showers will extend into southern and eastern China. Thus, cool and rainy conditions are anticipated over Shanghai and Hong Kong with highs in the 50s and 60s.
In Australia, expect another mild day as a low pressure system spins off the coast of Western Australia and higher pressure dominates the country. This will allow for mostly sunny skies and dry conditions, with a few coastal showers in the west. Sydney may see a few clouds with highs in the lower 70s(F)/ lower 20s(C).
