Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, December 24, 2009.

A quiet weather day is in store for most of Asia on Thursday. A low pressure system will push northeastward and out of the Sea of Japan, which will allow for higher pressure to build in from the East China Sea. This will bring drier air into the surrounding countries and will allow for increasingly sunny skies with warmer temperatures. Northern Japan may see a few scattered sprinkles in the morning as onshore flow persists over the region. Seoul will see a few lingering clouds with highs in the mid-40s(F)/ near 6(C), while Tokyo will also be partly cloudy with highs in the lower 50s(F)/ lower teens(C).

Meanwhile in China, a trough will continue developing over the center of the country, as high pressure spins over the South China Sea. This will pull moisture onshore over southern and central China, triggering a few light and scattered showers. Expect a few patchy clouds in Hong Kong with highs near 70(F)/ 21(C). The rest of China will remain sunny and dry, thus, Beijing will see highs near 40(F)/ 4(C), while Shanghai will return to the mid-50s(F)/ lower teens(C).

In Australia, the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Lawrence will kick up a few lingering showers over the Northern Territory as it becomes engulfed in the atmospheric flow. However, a low pressure system tracking through Southern Australia will kick up additional showers and thunderstorms over the center of the country. However, New South Whales will remain under dry and sunny skies, thus, Sydney will see another sunny day with highs in the mid-80s(F)/ upper 20s(C).
