Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Tropical storm development is not expected over the Western Pacific on Thursday, but will persist over the Indian Ocean. Tropical cyclone Phyan is expected to move from the Arabian Sea and over western India on Thursday. This system will continue losing strength as it moves onto land, but will spread moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms over the region. Expect tropical depression strength winds with gusts up to 39 mph. Mumbai will see lingering showers with highs in the upper 80s(F)/ upper 20s(C).
Meanwhile, in the east, low pressure will develop over central China while high pressure resides over the East China Sea. These contradicting weather features will create a strong cold front that will push eastward through central China and eastern China. Expect continual rainfall over most of China from this system, while cooler temperatures to the north will allow for mixed precipitation. Beijing may see light flurries with highs in the mid-30s(F)/ 3(C), while Shanghai will remain rainy with highs in the upper 60s(F)/ upper 20s(C). Expect highs in the 80s(F)/mid-20s(C) again in Hong Kong with plenty of rain.
Further east, a trough will move away from Japan but allow for clouds to linger well into the Korean Peninsula. Tokyo and Seoul will be overcast with highs in the 50s(F)/ lower teens(C).
In Australia, high pressure will dominate the weather and bring warm and pleasant weather to the continent. However, a small trough will move through Western Australia and kick up a few coastal showers. Sydney will remain hot and sunny with highs near 90(F)/ 32(C).
Very dramatic temperature swings were observed on this date in 1911. For example, Kansas City, Mo. recorded a morning low of 68 degrees. After warming to 76 degrees, the temperature plummeted so far that it was cold enough to snow by early afternoon. By midnight, the temperature reached a record low of 11 degrees.
