Jones County in eastern North Carolina...
Pamlico County in eastern North Carolina...

* until 445 am EST

* at 1055 PM EST... Doppler radar indicated a band of heavy rain
spreading over Carteret... Craven... Jones and Pamlico counties...
producing rainfall amounts up to 1 inch per hour. Periods of heavy
rain will continue overnight with additional rainfall amounts of 2
to 3 inches likely in the warning area. This will result in flooding
of some roadways... small streams and poor drainage areas.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... highways and underpasses. Additionally... country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks... streams and other low
lying areas are subject to flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of eastern North Carolina... including the following
areas... Beaufort... Carteret... Craven... Duplin... Greene...
Jones... Lenoir... Martin... Onslow... Pamlico and Pitt.

* Through late tonight

* widespread rain will continue tonight as low pressure moves
slowly northeast along the coast. Additional rainfall amounts
will range from 2 inches southwest to 4 inches closer to the
coast. This will lead to significant runoff... with flooding of
low lying and poor drainage areas possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... Coastal Flood Warning is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a coastal Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 8 PM this
evening to 1 PM EST Thursday. The coastal Flood Warning has been
cancelled.

Low pressure will move slowly northeast along the coast tonight and
Thursday. This will produce strong east to northeast winds of 30
to 35 mph tonight... with winds becoming north and decreasing to 20
mph Thursday. The strong winds will increase water levels over
the southern Pamlico Sound and produce the threat of minor
flooding with water rises of 2 to 3 feet above normal from
Oriental to New Bern.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

... Strong thunderstorms will affect Onslow... Carteret... Craven...
Pamlico and Jones counties until 300 am EST...

At 124 am EST... there were strong thunderstorms from 13 miles
southwest of James City to 45 miles southeast of North Topsail
Beach... moving north at 35 mph. The strong thunderstorms will be near
New Bern at 145 am EST... James City at 150 am EST... Havelock at 155
am EST... Newport at 155 am EST... Morehead City at 300 am EST.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph can be expected with these storms.
Continued heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water and localized
flooding of roadways. Motorists should slow down on area roadways to
avoid hydroplaning and should be alert to water across primary
roadways and potential flooding of secondary roadways.
