Areas of wet weather will persist in Asia on Sunday as a large low pressure system develops over the region. The system will move from southern China and over the East China Sea, towards the Sea of Japan. This will push moisture into southern and eastern China, as well as western Japan, triggering scattered showers throughout the day. Periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds may develop across western Japan later in the day. Hong Kong will see partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s(F)/ upper teens(C), but Shanghai will see increasingly cloudy skies with rain developing in the afternoon and evening, with highs in the lower 50s(F)/ lower teens(C). Tokyo will be east of this trough, under mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s(F)/ near 6(C). Meanwhile to the north, high pressure remains the dominant weather feature over northern China and the Korean Peninsula, creating sunny skies and dry conditions. However, temperatures will remain cool as high pressure pushes cooler air in from the north. Beijing will be sunny with highs in the upper 30s(F)/ near 3(C).

In Australia, a ridge of high pressure builds into the Great Australian Bight and extends over the country. This will push moisture away to the south, allowing for dry and sunny conditions. A few scattered showers will persist over Tasmania and southern Victoria as a trough moves away from the region. Sydney remains sunny with highs in the lower 80s(F)/ upper 20s(C).
