Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 8:07 PM MDT on May 27, 2015

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 130 PM MDT Saturday for
southwestern Pennington and northeastern Custer counties...

At 759 PM MDT... reporting gauges indicated flooding across the
warned area.

On rapid creek from Pactola Reservoir to the Cheyenne river... very
high streamflows were observed with minor flooding in low lying
areas near the creek. Spring Creek from above Sheridan Lake to below
Sheridan Lake... and on to the Cheyenne river also had very high
streamflows with minor flooding in low lying areas near the creek as
well as at the gauge site near Keystone.

While heavy rains have ended for tonight... additional rainfall
Thursday in the form of showers and thunderstorms will maintain
current minor flooding conditions. Since the soil is saturated any
heavy rain that falls Thursday will quickly be ingested into rapid
creek and Spring Creek resulting in additional rises.

Some locations that will experience flooding
include... Rapid City... Hill City... Rapid Valley... Johnson
Siding... Hisega... Caputa... Folsom... Farmingdale... Rockerville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.
