Nowcast | as of 5:40 am EDT on August 30, 2015

The remnants of Erika moving across Cuba and the Florida Straits this morning will continue to produce widespread showers and storms across South Florida. Ongoing activity along the East Coast Metro areas will spread westwards into Glades...Hendry...and Collier counties through mid morning. Locally heavy rainfall will occur with most activity today...and persistent or training bands of rain may lead to flooding of roadways...low-lying and prone areas. Gusty winds of 40 mph and frequent lightning strikes will also accompany stronger activity.

Areal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 7:59 AM EDT on August 30, 2015

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northeastern Miami-Dade County in southeastern Florida...

* until 1100 am EDT

* at 757 am EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms moving onshore. This will cause urban flooding in
the advisory area. Two to three inches of rain fell last
night... and this line of training showers and thunderstorms could
produce locally another one to two inches in a brief period of
time.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Miami... Miami Beach... Surfside... Virginia Key and North Miami.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of
rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle.

Broward... inland Collier... inland Miami Dade... inland Palm

Metro Palm Beach.

* Through Monday morning

* deep tropical moisture associated with the remnants of Erika
currently extending across the Florida Straits will continue
moving into South Florida this morning through tonight. This
will continue the threat for very heavy rainfall across South
Florida with rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches... along with the
possibility of much higher amounts where showers and
thunderstorms move over the same area.

* Heavy rain may create significant flooding of streets... urban
areas... and low lying flood prone areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
