Severe thunderstorm activity will persist for the Plains on Sunday as a broad low pressure system continues trekking through the region. The system will move from the Northern Plains and into the Great Lakes, creating two frontal boundaries. The warm front associated with this system will extend eastward over the Great Lakes and into the Northeast, kicking up scattered showers and thunderstorms into Sunday night. At the same time, a cold front extends southward from this system which will move off the Central Rockies and into the Central and Southern Plains. Counter-clockwise flow around this broad system will pull moisture and energy into the Plains from the Gulf of Mexico. This will support moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms in between these two fronts. This system has a history of severe thunderstorm development across the Northern and Central Plains, thus, there is a moderate risk of severe thunderstorm development with large hail, damaging winds, and multiple tornadoes. These severe thunderstorms will most likely develop across central and eastern Oklahoma, through eastern Kansas, and into western Missouri. A slight risk of severe storm development remains in effect from northern Texas, through southern Minnesota and Wisconsin on Sunday. At the same time, the back side of this system will continue spreading moisture over the Intermountain West and Rockies. This will trigger more showers with isolated thunderstorms over the region through Sunday evening.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure slowly moves over the East Coast and maintains shower and thunderstorm activity for the Mid-Atlantic states through the Northeast.

Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 1:54 PM EDT on May 19, 2013

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a
* Flood Warning for
the Chattahoochee River near Roswell.
* From this afternoon until late tonight.
* At 100 PM Sunday the stage was 9 feet... and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 9 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 9.3 feet by this afternoon.
The river will fall below flood stage this evening.
* At 9 feet... flood stage is reached. The water reaches the bottom
of the Ace sand company office and begins to flood the parking lot
of Don white Memorial Park on Riverside Road... and the parking lot
at the Azalea Park on Azalea drive west of Roswell Road. Water will
approach the tennis courts at the Huntcliff club across from Azalea
Park and begin to flood the Road leading to the horse stables. The
storm drains will no longer function properly at Riverside Road and
Northcliff trace.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Chattahoochee River near Norcross.
* Until this evening.
* At 12 PM Sunday the stage was 12.4 feet... and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 13.3 feet by this afternoon.
The river will fall below flood stage late this afternoon.
* At 12 feet... flood stage is reached and minor flooding begins.
Flood waters will begin to cover Chattahoochee River National
Recreation Area parking lot at Medlock Bridge Park. In addition...
bottomland flooding increases in the flood plain.




1232 PM EDT sun may 19 2013

... Flood Warning extended until Tuesday afternoon... the Flood Warning
continues for
the Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* Until Tuesday afternoon.
* At 11 am Sunday the stage was 8.4 feet... and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue. Brief moderate flooding will be
possible.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The creek will continue rising to near 10.9 feet by midnight.
The creek will fall below flood stage late Tuesday morning.
* At 11 feet... moderate flooding begins to expand further into The
Woodlands along the creek. The Big Creek Greenway is completely
flooded with 1 to 5 feet of water. The water level approaches the
bottom of the foot bridge just downstream of Kimball bridge Road
where the gage is located. Portions of The Rock Hill park will be
flooded. A large portion of the YMCA campground off Preston Ridge
Road will be flooded.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Douglas County in north central Georgia
southwestern Fulton County in north central Georgia
Carroll County in northwest Georgia
Southern Haralson County in northwest Georgia

* until 545 PM EDT Sunday

* at 1139 am EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar
indicated thunderstorms with heavy rain beginning to spread
south into the warned area. Intense rainfall amounts of 2 to
3 inches in one hour can be expected during the next few
hours. Additional heavy rainfall amounts are possible later
in the afternoon.

* Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Grant
Park-Zoo Atlanta... Midtown... Hapeville... East Point... College
Park... Atlanta... Douglasville... Lithia Springs... Villa Rica...
Temple... Bremen... Waco and Tallapoosa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as highways and underpasses.
Additionally... country roads and farmlands along the banks of
creeks... streams and other low lying areas are subject to flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway... the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

... Flood Watch in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of central Georgia... east central
Georgia... north central Georgia... northeast Georgia...
northwest Georgia and west central Georgia.

* Through this evening

* National Weather Service radar indicates that two to four inches
of rain... with locally higher amounts... has fallen across
portions of north and central Georgia this morning. Additional
amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts are
possible. The heavy rainfall axis will shift to the southwest
across the Metro Atlanta area during the mid to late morning.

* Flooding of the larger creeks and rivers is possible with
additional rainfall.

* Localized flash flooding will be possible if the heavy rain
repeatedly moves over the same area. Also... storm drains...
ditches... and low lying areas may become quickly clogged with
debris and cause extensive street flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor
later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those
living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
