Coastal Hazard Statement, Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 11:36 AM EDT on April 19, 2015

... High rip current risk in effect through late tonight...

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a high rip
current risk... which is in effect through late tonight.

* Location: Walton... Bay... Gulf and Franklin County beaches.

* Surf: building to around 3 feet today.

* Impacts: stronger and more frequent rip currents are likely
today... which could be hazardous to those entering the water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol
flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* all of southeast Alabama and the Florida Panhandle... much of
southwest Georgia... and parts of the Florida Big Bend. This
includes the cities of Tallahassee... Albany... Dothan... and
Panama City.

* Through this evening

* showers and thunderstorms will cross the area from west to east
today. Heavy rainfall will be likely with these storms.
Widespread rainfall totals of 1-2 inches are expected... but
isolated areas may see totals of 3-6 inches with these
storms... which could lead to flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
