Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 2:46 PM CDT on July 07, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through
Thursday morning...

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Illinois... east
central Illinois... north central Illinois... south central
Illinois... southeast Illinois and west central Illinois...
including the following areas... in central Illinois...
Christian... De Witt... Logan... Macon... Marshall... Mason...
McLean... Menard... Moultrie... Peoria... Piatt... Sangamon...
Shelby... Tazewell and Woodford. In east central Illinois...
Champaign... Clark... Coles... Crawford... Cumberland... Douglas...
Edgar and Vermilion. In north central Illinois... Stark. In
south central Illinois... Clay and Effingham. In southeast
Illinois... Jasper... Lawrence and Richland. In west central
Illinois... Cass... Fulton... Knox... Morgan... Schuyler and Scott.

* From Wednesday morning through Thursday morning

* a weather system will bring showers and thunderstorms to the
area tomorrow through tomorrow night. The showers and storms
are expected to produce heavy rainfall as they move over the
area. An area of 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall can be expected
south of I-72 through the period. However... around an inch is
possible north of this area. The ground still remains somewhat
saturated so any heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of
low lying areas and poor drainage areas.

* Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of poor drainage and low
lying areas... resulting in the potential of dangerous flooding
on smaller creeks and streams. This could also cause rises on
larger rivers and streams that are have been receding in the
past couple of days... and cause other rivers to remain in the
state of flood for a longer period of time.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Special Statement
Statement as of 10:25 AM CDT on July 07, 2015

... Poor air quality due to Canadian wildfires...

Analysis from the environmental protection agency indicates air
quality over portions of northwest and west central Illinois has
reached unhealthy levels. This is most prevalent northwest of the
Illinois River... and is being caused by the smoke from wildfires
in northwest Canada... which has been drawn into the Midwest over
the last several days. Visibility is being reduced to a few miles
due to the resulting haze... and there have been reports of smoke
being smelled at the surface... due to the air being drawn downward
behind a recent cold front passage.

When the air quality index is described as unhealthy... it
indicates a greater likelihood of respiratory symptoms and
breathing difficulties in sensitive groups. People with
respiratory diseases should avoid outdoor exertion... and others
should limit the amount of outdoor exertion.

Air quality should improve later this afternoon... as high pressure
builds across the upper Mississippi Valley.
