Areal Flood Advisory, High Surf Warning
Statement as of 1:04 PM HST on September 02, 2015

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the island of Maui in Maui County

* until 400 PM HST

* at 1254 PM HST... radar showed heavy rain falling at rates of 2
inches per hour along windward east Maui near Huelo... or about 15
miles east of Kahului. The area of heavy rain was nearly
stationary.

* Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to
Pauwela... Paia... Makawao... Keanae... hookipa Beach Park... Haliimaile
and Haiku.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 400 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

... High surf warning remains in effect until 6 PM HST Thursday...

A high surf warning remains in effect until 6 PM HST Thursday.

* Surf... along east facing shores... 10 to 15 feet. Occasional
sets to 18 ft this evening.

* Timing... northeast swell turning north and diminishing today. East
swell peak today and tonight. Elevated surf will persist through
at least the weekend.

* Impacts... high... expect ocean water occasionally sweeping
across portions of beaches... very strong breaking waves and
strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may
occasionally impact harbors making navigating The Harbor
channel dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

These dangerous conditions mean that only highly experienced
persons should enter the water. Inexperienced persons should
remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas. Large breaking
surf... significant shore break... and dangerous currents make
entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water
could face significant injury or death.
