Tropical Weather: Tropical Depression Beryl (North Atlantic)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Severe weather struck the Northeast on Tuesday as a strong cold front draped itself through the Ohio Valley. Storms were reported along the front from Tennessee through Maine, and a line of especially dangerous storms rolled through Pennsylvania Upstate New York and New Hampshire. These storms produced large hail, over one inch in diameter in places, as well as very strong wind gusts. Straight line winds damaged many structures and brought trees down on houses, cars and power lines throughout the region.

These thunderstorms were partially powered by moisture streaming north from tropical depression Beryl.

Beryl continued to drop heavy rainfall across the Southeast on Tuesday as the storm sat centered over southern Georgia. Beryl had stopped moving westward in the morning hours, and began to drift to the Northeast, on a path that was expected to take the storm back out to sea by Wednesday evening.

Elsewhere in the nation, scattered showers were noted across the Great Lakes and Mid-West, while portions of Montana saw heavy thunderstorm activity.

In the West, lightly overcast skies were reported throughout Washington and Oregon, but precipitation was mostly absent. California saw clear skis save for a few areas with dense morning fog that cleared up by mid-day.
