Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 26, 2013.

Expect more severe showers and thunderstorms to develop over the High Plains again on Sunday, stretching into the Central Plains and Mississippi River Valley. A low pressure system continues spinning over the region as is slowly moves off the Rockies and into the Plains. Flow around this system will continue to create a warm front that stretches from eastern Montana through Nebraska and into the Mid-Mississippi River Valley. The heaviest rainfall and strongest storms are most likely to develop from southeastern Montana and northeastern Wyoming through northeastern Nebraska, moving into western Iowa Sunday night. These areas may see large hail and isolated tornadoes. Another region of heavy rainfall with scattered thunderstorms will develop just east of this system, starting the day over Iowa and Illinois, moving eastward into the Midwest and Lower Ohio River Valley by Sunday night.

In the Southern Plains, heavy rainfall will continue winding down on Sunday for Texas. However, the combination of onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico and a wave of low pressure will continue triggering rain showers from southern Texas through Oklahoma. This will allow for flooding to remain a concern, especially for the San Antonio area.

Out West, a trough of low pressure moves over the Pacific Northwest, bringing scattered showers to Washington and Oregon on Sunday. Some moisture from this system will reach into northern California and northern Nevada, bringing a few light rain showers Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Areal Flood Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 8:26 AM AKDT on May 25, 2013

... Flood Warning in effect from 815 am akdt to 215 PM akdt Sunday for
the Salcha river...

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Warning for the Salcha river

* until 215 PM akdt Sunday

* rapid snow melt at higher elevations over the past two days has
caused a surge of water into the Salcha drainage. The rising water
has broken loose the large chunks of ice that remain in the upper
river.

* Areas of flooding are expected as ice jams form. These jams will
likely develop quickly.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Water
levels can rise rapidly and people along the river are encouraged to
move property to higher ground away from the river bank.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams... rivers... or creeks. Campers and hikers
should avoid low lying areas such as gravel bars.

Areal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Watch
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 6:00 PM AKDT on May 25, 2013

... Flood Advisory in effect until 400 PM akdt Monday for the
fortymile river and its tributaries...

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the fortymile river and its tributaries

* until 400 PM akdt Monday

* very warm temperatures are resulting in a rapid melting and
runoff of the remaining winter snowpack in the fortymile river
basin.

* The fortymile river and its tributaries are experiencing
significant rises each day due to the melting of the snowpack.
This includes the main Stem of the fortymile river... the north and
south Forks... Obrien creek... Walker Fork... mosquito Fork... and
Dennison Fork. Peak runoff and crests are expected Sunday and
Monday. Minor flooding of low lying areas is likely along these
rivers. After that... the diminishing snowpack will result in lower
daily crests each day.

People along the fortymile river and its tributaries are urged to
monitor water levels and prepare for a rise each day as a result
of the snowmelt runoff.

519 PM akdt Sat may 25 2013

... Flood Watch in effect through Monday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Watch for tributaries of the Yukon and Tanana rivers
including the Charley... goodpaster... Tok river... and Gardiner
creek.

* Through Monday afternoon

* rapid melting of snow at higher elevations is causing high
stages. Peak stages are not expected until Sunday at the
earliest and possibly Monday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
