... High surf advisory now in effect until noon HST Thursday...

The high surf advisory is now in effect until noon HST Thursday.

* Surf... along east facing shores... 5 to 8 feet through
today... increasing to 8 to 12 feet with higher sets
tonight... then declining on Wednesday afternoon.

* Timing... building tonight... peaking early Wednesday... then
declining late Wednesday.

* Impacts... moderate... expect strong breaking waves... shore
break... and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... beachgoers... swimmers... and
surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials
and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers
and body boarders utilizing Harbor channels to access surfing
areas.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Maui and The Big Island

* until 600 PM Thursday.

* For abundant moisture from Tropical Storm Guillermo moving over
the area.

* Excessive runoff may result in rock and mudslides in steep
terrain. Fast moving water may create life-threatening situations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is very dangerous. Remember
that it does not have to be raining heavily where you are for
flash flooding to occur.

Monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take immediate
action if flash flood warnings are issued.

... Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the chance for tropical storm force winds is 6 percent at Hilo
and 10 percent at Kahului. This represents a general downward
trend since the last forecast.

... Winds...
although the latest forecast is for sustained winds to remain
below tropical storm force of 39 mph... 34 knots... only a small
change in the track of Guillermo could result in higher winds.

... Inland flooding...
a chance of localized heavy rainfall and thunderstorms continue
for Wednesday and Thursday as Guillermo passes northeast of the
islands. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in
some areas... with isolated maximum amounts to 7 inches possible
mainly in higher terrain. Rainfall amounts will be lower if
Guillermo tracks farther away from the islands than currently
forecast.
