Statement as of 2:20 PM PST on December 08, 2009 ... Freeze warning remains in effect from 2 am to 9 am PST Wednesday... A freeze warning remains in effect for the Central Valley and adjacent foothills below 2000 feet from 2 am to 9 am PST Wednesday. Minimum temperatures early Wednesday morning are expected to be in the lower to mid 20s... though there is potential for colder locations in the North Valley and foothills to dip into the upper teens. * Impacts: locations below 2000 feet do not regularly experience these cold temperatures. Black ice may form overnight as recent rain and melting snow freezes on Road surfaces. * Sensitive vegetation may be harmed. Pets and livestock that may be sensitive to the cold should be brought into protective areas. * Potential for some locations to experience problems with exposed waterlines. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will create black ice and kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. |

Statement as of 10:30 am PST on December 8, 2009 ... Record low temperatures set or tied this morning... Record low temperatures were set or tied overnight from the northern Sacramento Valley to the northern San Joaquin Valley. In Redding this mornings low was 18 breaking the old record of 20 set in 1972. In Red Bluff the low dropped to 19 this breaks the old record of 20 set in 1972. For Sacramento the low was 27 tying the old record set in 1972. At Sacramento Executive Airport the temperature dropped to 23 degrees breaking the old record of 25 set in 1978. Finally the Modesto low this morning tied the old record of 25 set in 1978. |
