Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 8:29 AM PST Feb. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement in effect until 8 PM PST this
evening...

The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a beach
hazards statement for rip currents and large shore break... which
is in effect until 8 PM PST this evening.

* Waves... west to northwest swell 7 to 8 feet at 13 to 15
seconds. Offshore winds will allow for larger waves.

* Hazards... increased risk of rip currents and large shore break.

* Timing... now through 8pm Tuesday.

* Location... coastline from Sonoma County south through Monterey
County.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazard statement for rip currents means that conditions
are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents.
Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the
vicinity of jetties... inlets... and piers. Swimmers caught in a rip
current should swim parallel to the coast to escape the rip
current before trying to swim for shore. Swimmers should always
swim near a lifeguard.
