Statement as of 5:58 AM PDT on April 18, 2015

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 5 PM PDT this
afternoon...

* surf... high surf between 8 and 11 feet. The surf will begin to
subside late this afternoon.

* Locations... the largest surf is expected on exposed west and
northwest facing beaches... including Morro Bay... cable Landing
and the beaches west of Santa Maria and Lompoc.

* Tides... a high tide near 4.7 feet will occur around 1030 am PDT
this morning.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will make swimming
and surfing hazardous. Sneaker waves can suddenly wash people of
rocks and jetties.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

Remember... if caught in a rip current... swim parallel to shore
until you are free of the powerful current. Always swim near a
lifeguard.

... Dense fog advisory in effect until 9 am PDT this morning...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
dense fog advisory... which is in effect until 9 am PDT this
morning.

* Visibilities... one quarter mile or less... mainly near the beaches.

* Timing... through 9 am PDT this morning.

* Impacts... dense fog will make travel hazardous on roadways
including highways 1 and 101... and State Route 246.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When driving... reduce speeds and increase following distance. Use
low beam headlights... and allow extra time to reach your
destination.
