Beach Hazard Statement
Statement as of 9:09 AM PDT on July 30, 2015

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this
evening...

* lightning... dangerous cloud to beach/water lightning is possible
through this evening if thunderstorms drift out toward the
coast.

* Waves and surf... Orange County beaches... 2 to 4 feet with local
sets to 5 feet. San Diego County beaches... 3 to 4 feet with
local sets to 5 feet with strong rip currents still likely
everywhere.

* Locations... beaches of Orange and San Diego counties.

* Timing... through this evening.

* Impacts... strong rip currents and elevated surf will result in
very dangerous swimming conditions. Swimmers in shallow water
may unexpectedly get pulled out by the rip currents or the
larger breaking waves. Dangerous cloud to beach and water
lightning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement for rip currents means that conditions
are present to support a heightened risk of strong rip currents.
Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger in the
vicinity of jetties... inlets... and piers. Swimmers caught in a
rip current should swim parallel to the coast to escape the rip
current before trying to swim for shore. Swimmers should always
swim near a lifeguard.
