Tropical Weather: Tropical Cyclone Jasmine (Southern Pacific) Tropical Cyclone Cyril (Southern Pacific)
Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 06, 2012. A rare February tropical disturbance continued to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to south Florida to the tone of several inches. Even if the disturbance does not develop further, widespread rain and thunderstorms will continue through the rest of the day.

This precipitation represented the only significant precipitation in the country, further prolonging the relatively dry and mild Winter the country has experienced. The only other light precipitation was high elevation snow that fell in the Colorado Rockies.

Generally mild temperatures continued for much of the country, as been a staple for nearly the entire Winter. The coldest areas were noted in the Northern Rockies and Intermountain West where afternoon temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for most areas.

The Northeast rose into the 40s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and some 80s in Florida. The Northwest rose into the 40s and 50s, while the Southwest saw temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Special Weather Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 1:15 PM PST on February 06, 2012

... Wet weather returns to southwestern California Tuesday afternoon
and Tuesday evening...

A Pacific weather system will move into southwestern California
Tuesday afternoon and evening... bringing periods of light
precipitation to the region. Periods of light rain will begin
around midday across coastal Orange County and the northern
areas... before spreading south and east during the afternoon and
early evening. Most of the rainfall will be light to moderate... with
precipitation amounts remaining primarily less than a quarter
inch in most areas from the mountains west to the coast. The
deserts will receive only a few hundredths.

The snow level will be around 6000 feet. Some locations in the San
Bernardino and Riverside County mountains could receive up to three
inches of new snowfall.

Roadways could be slippery... especially during the onset of the
rain and during the afternoon rush hour due to oil buildup on the
roads... as it will have been more than two weeks since the last
rain. Snowfall in the mountains may cause slippery roadways
above 6000 feet.

Although a few showers will linger across San Diego County on
Wednesday morning... drier conditions will develop by the
afternoon and continue through the remainder of the week.
