Public Information Statement
Statement as of 6:45 PM MST on November 23, 2009
Subject: experimental use of bulleted winter storm /WSW/ and non-precipitation /npw/ watches... warnings... and advisories
From December 8 2009 and ending may 29 2010... the Riverton /riw/ weather forecast office /WFO/ will issue winter weather /WSW/ and non-precipitation /npw/ watches... warnings... and advisories using an experimental bullet format. The experimental bullet format is similar to the current format used for severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings. These formats are easier for users to read and to quickly gather vital information during hazardous winter and non-precipitation events. During the experimental period WFO Riverton may temporarily revert back to the current... non-bullet... format to maintain mission critical warning services.
A product description document /pdd/ for these experimental products... including examples of the bulleted WSW and npw products... is available online at /use lowercase/:
On this website... select the bulleted WSW npw pdd.Pdf to view and download a copy of the product description document.
Public comments about this experimental bullet format are welcome through may 29 2010. A survey is online at /use lowercase/:
Upon completion of this experimental period and the close of the public comment period... the NWS will evaluate all received comments to determine whether or not to proceed with a full implementation of bulleted WSW and npw products nationwide.
