Special Statement
Statement as of 3:33 AM MDT on June 03, 2015

... Wet weekend in store for eastern Utah and western Colorado...

After a week of relatively dry conditions... a return to more wet
weather is in store for eastern Utah and western Colorado this
weekend. An area of low pressure will be strengthening along the
West Coast and dropping south toward Southern California. This low
pressure system will eventually draw tropical moisture
northeastward from two tropical weather systems over the eastern
Pacific.

The first system... Tropical Storm Andres... will be tapped late
Thursday night and Friday with moisture expected to rapidly return
to The Four Corners region. This moisture will spread north across
the remainder of eastern Utah and western Colorado by Friday
afternoon. At this time... widespread showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop... with locally heavy rainfall possible. The
San Juan Mountains and southern valleys between Cortez... Durango
and Pagosa Springs will see the best potential for heavy
rainfall. The wet weather is expected to persist through the
weekend.

On Sunday... the remnants of Hurricane Blanca may be swept
northward into the region. This outcome is not as clear at the
moment as much of the moisture associated with this system may be
driven to our southeast... resulting in a little less activity as
we move into the new work week.

Recent High Mountain snowmelt... combined with the potential for
heavy rainfall will increase the potential for flooding...
especially along smaller creeks and streams. Remember... if you
encounter water over roads... turn around dont drown.

Anyone planning weekend activities across eastern Utah and
western Colorado should obtain the latest forecasts before
venturing out. For the latest information... visit our website at
weather.Gov/gjt. You can also follow US on facebook and twitter
where frequent messages will be posted as this event unfolds.
