Statement as of 7:08 AM CST on February 09, 2010
... A mix of winter precipitation is expected across much of south
central Texas beginning Wednesday through early Friday...
Abundant Pacific moisture will begin to overrun a cold Arctic air
mass over Texas as early as late tonight. Light precipitation
should begin as a mix of rain... sleet... and snow over northern
Mexico... moving into parts of south central Texas by around
daybreak Wednesday.
The chance of mixed precipitation will increase from west to east
during the day Wednesday... with most of the precipitation changing
over to rain. By Wednesday night... a strong weather disturbance
will begin to impact the weather across south central Texas.
Although most of the precipitation from the storm system should
fall as rain... a mix with light sleet and light snow could occur
at times Wednesday night through early Friday morning. The
winter storm should move across the area Thursday night... with
some areas seeing rain change over to snow before precipitation
ends Friday.
Temperatures are expected to fall close to freezing Wednesday
night and Thursday night... mainly over portions of south central
Texas northwest of a del Rio to Bandera to Lake Georgetown line.
Exposed surfaces over these areas could briefly become slick and
hazardous early Thursday morning. Ground temperatures should
remain above freezing and melt any frozen precipitation through
early Thursday evening. Light snow accumulations up to a dusting
could develop late Thursday night... mainly northwest of a del Rio
to Bandera to Lake Georgetown line.
Temperatures should warm to above freezing during the day
Friday... melting any snow or ice accumulations that occur. People
with interests in The Hill Country and Edwards Plateau should
prepare for hazardous Road conditions... and avoid making travel
plans during the early morning hours Thursday or Friday.
