Coastal Hazard Statement
Statement as of 3:41 PM CST on February 28, 2015

... Rip current risk now in effect until midnight CST tonight...

* timing... through this late this evening.

* Impacts... dangerous rip currents are forecast to occur along
the Gulf facing beaches of the middle Texas coast. Both the
strength and frequency of these rip currents will result in
surf that is dangerous for swimmers. These rip currents will
be dangerous to even experienced swimmers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... do not panic. Yell for
help. Remain calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while
waiting for help. If you have to swim out of a rip current...
swim parallel to shore and back toward toward the beach when
possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current
as you will tire quickly.
