Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 3:13 AM CDT on May 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for small streams in...
northwestern Butler County in south central Kansas...
eastern Harvey County in south central Kansas...
northeastern Sedgwick County in south central Kansas...
southeastern Marion County in central Kansas...

* until 1115 am CDT Thursday

* at 312 am CDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms with heavy rain over the area. That rain will cause
flooding. One to one and a half inches of rain have fallen and
heavy rain is still falling.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wichita... Park city... Valley Center... Bel Aire... Peabody...
Whitewater... Florence... Kechi and Elbing.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... highways and underpasses in urban areas.
Additionally... country roads and farmlands along the banks of
creeks... streams and other low lying areas are subject to flooding.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:35 PM CDT on May 27, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 7 PM CDT this evening through
Friday evening...

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Kansas and south
central Kansas... including the following areas... in central
Kansas... Barton... Ellsworth... Lincoln... Marion... McPherson...
Rice... Russell and Saline. In south central Kansas... Harper...
Harvey... Kingman... Reno... Sedgwick and Sumner.

* From 7 PM CDT this evening through Friday evening.

* A couple of rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move across
central Kansas for the next couple of days. The first round of
storms will occur this evening... with additional showers and
thunderstorms possible Thursday and Friday. Given saturated
grounds... any additional rainfall will aggravate existing
flooding or result in renewed flooding in the watch area. Runoff
from the rainfall may lead to rapid rises on rivers and
streams.

* Those with outdoor plans or with residences along creeks and
rivers need to monitor the weather situation closely for the
next couple of days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
