The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
central and eastern Kansas
western through northeast Missouri

* effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 325 PM until
1100 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

Summary... thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage and
intensity while moving east-southeast across the watch area this
afternoon into evening. Damaging outflow winds will be the primary
hazard with these storms.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 70
statute miles east and west of a line from 40 miles south of
Emporia Kansas to 15 miles north of Kirksville Missouri. For a

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.


Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm motion

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
northwestern Shawnee County in east central Kansas...
south central Jackson County in northeastern Kansas...

* until 530 PM CDT

* at 329 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to four inches of rain have
already fallen between Delia and Hoyt. Flash flooding is expected
to begin shortly.

* Flash flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of northwestern
Shawnee and south central Jackson counties... with Soldier Creek
the primary basin the rain has fallen in. Watch for fast rises
along Soldier Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Heavy rainfall will cause flash flooding of small creeks and
streams... country roads... as well as farmland and low lying spots.

heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small
Stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain
have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Rossville... Hoyt... Mayetta... Denison... Delia and Potawatomi
reservation.
