The National Weather Service in Springfield has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
Christian County in southwestern Missouri...
Webster County in southwestern Missouri...
Taney County in southwestern Missouri...
Newton County in southwestern Missouri...
McDonald County in southwestern Missouri...
Barry County in southwestern Missouri...
Greene County in southwestern Missouri...
Stone County in southwestern Missouri...
Lawrence County in southwestern Missouri...

* until 830 am CST Saturday

* at 817 PM CST... the majority of the heavy rain has shifted to the
south and east of the area... however additional rainfall is
expected later tonight. Over three inches of rainfall has already
occurred in parts of the warned area

* flooding has been reported along Missouri Highway 86 in Newton
County... and near the headwaters of the Spring River in Lawrence
County. Significant rises have occurred or are expected along the
James... Spring... and Elk rivers... and along Wilsons Creek... Flat
Creek... and big and little sugar creeks.

Creeks... streams... and low water crossings will continue to be
especially susceptible to the dangers of flooding through the night.

This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water

Highway 43 at Buffalo Creek west of Anderson...
business Highway 60 just north of Neosho...
Route cc west of Fair Grove at the Pomme de Terre River...
Highway 13 at railey creek near Reeds Spring...
and Highway 13 at Pine Run northwest of Galena.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around... dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* at 7:15 PM Friday the stage was 5.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river is expected to rise to near flood stage
tomorrow evening.
* Impact... at 15.0 feet... flood waters impact shoal canoe rental and
motel one mile south of the gage site. Railey creek at the rental
and hotel area begins to backwater along the James River.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the
following areas... in southeast Kansas... Cherokee and Crawford.
In Missouri... Barry... Barton... Camden... Cedar... Christian...
Dade... Dallas... Dent... Douglas... Greene... Hickory... Howell...
Jasper... Laclede... Lawrence... McDonald... Newton... Oregon...
Ozark... Phelps... Polk... Pulaski... Shannon... stone... Taney...
Texas... Webster and Wright.

* Through Saturday morning

* prolonged moderate rainfall will continue into the evening
before gradually starting to shift south and southeast tonight
and Saturday. Widespread storm total rainfall amounts ranging
from two to four inches are expected across the watch area.

* Flooding of small streams and creeks is occurring and expected
to become more widespread. Larger Stem rivers will also
experience rises... exceeding flood stage in some locations.
Many low water crossings will become impassable.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
